Because global warming and the exhaustion of natural resources should be the concern of all, the whole range of Normandy institutions, community authorities and student federations have initiated a local and collective approach aimed at students. Through their action plan, they have the ambition to get gestures and daily practices to evolve to increase the efficiency of sustainable development policies on campus and to contribute to defining an image as a responsible territory. Such dynamics helped them obtain the national ‘’ label on 23 October 2019, which was created in 2019 to value and increase the visibility of local collective initiatives that mobilise users. 

The ‘Agir ensemble’ Scheme, to uphold a ‘Sustainable Campus in a Sustainable City’. 

Led by the Association of French University Cities (AVUF), the Conference of University Presidents (CPU), the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles (CGE), the Agence de l’Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l’Energie (ADEME), the Crous and MGEN, in consultation with the French Student Network for Sustainable Development (REFEDD) and the Collectif pour l’Intégration du développement durable et de la Responsabilité Sociétale dans l’Enseignement Supérieur (CIRSES), sponsored by Banque des territoires and CASDEN, the ‘Agir Ensemble’ Scheme aims at promoting co-constructed local initiatives that contribute to the development of sustainable campuses within sustainable Territories. 
The ‘Agir ensemble’ Label is awarded to territory alliances including at least one local authority, one university, one school and a Crous, which are jointly drawing up an action plan to mobilise students and staff about local sustainable development stakes. 

Instagram #VenirAutrement2019 Contest 

Under the framework of this action plan, public bodies and Higher Education institutions have organised a contest on the issue of mobility on Thursday 21 November 2019. Students and staff from Higher Education institutions were to commute while limiting their footprint. This contest aims to be an incentive to use public transport or green transport modes and to share their photos on Instagram 
via the hashtag #VenirAutrement2019.
To take part, it was just a question of registering for one of 4 categories: bike, public transport, walking, and other means of transport.  The most liked photos in each category will receive many prizes. KEOLIS Caen Mobilités, the sponsor of the contest, was present on campuses the days before and was offering a 5-trip card at a reduced fare and other surprise goodies.  

An original survey of student mobility 

On 21 November, a survey was launched on the subject of student mobility within the framework of the ‘Master psychologie sociale de l’intervention: audit et conduite de changement’ and supported by the Psychology Laboratory of Université Caen Normandie. A review work of the various publications on this issue, together with a survey and data processing will be carried out to eventually make a diagnosis in the shape of a synthetic analysis and recommendations on the future communication and awareness raising actions to be carried out in this respect. 

What now?

A second ‘Agir ensemble’ initiative will be led in March 2020 as a Cleanwalk scheme (waste collection) throughout Normandy.
