The nation is facing a crucial shortage of skilled technicians, which is an issue now popularly known as the national skills gap. The national skills gap is discussed regularly on major news networks and in national economic discussions, and the same conclusion is always reached - there are simply not enough skilled workers to fill open positions and keep the economy growing. This is because high schools have steered graduating students away from the trades and into traditional colleges over the last few decades.
